Question
Dear and not lowly ScorpioN,
The song " I know Jack" says:
"I served with Jack Kennedy
I knew Jack Kennedy
Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine
Senator you're no Jack Kennedy"
But who's Jack Kennedy?
Thanks, Pirox.
Answer
"I served with Jack Kennedy", "I knew Jack Kennedy", "Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine", and "Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy" were all famous statements made by Democratic Vice-Presidential Candidate Senator Lloyd Bentsen to Republican Vice-Presidential candidate Senator J. Danforth Quayle during the 1988 Vice-Presidential Debate. In these statements, Jack Kennedy was a reference to John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States. In the general election on November 8th 1960, Kennedy beat Republican Richard M. Nixon in a very close race. John F. Kennedy served as President of the United States from 1961 until November 22, 1963 when he was killed by an assassin's bullet in Dallas, Texas. At the age of forty-three, Kennedy was the youngest man elected President. His Inaugural Address offered the memorable injunction: "Ask not what your country can do for you--ask what you can do for your country."
