October 15, 2007 - GIGANTOUR 2006 DVD, TOURING, MARSHALL AMPS AND MORE!
This is the last weekend I will be at my home until Thanksgiving. It was two Thanksgivings ago that my life felt upside down from the separation, and celebrating Thanksgiving alone in a hotel. Needless to say, I wanted to take the time today to put up all the ghosts and goblins around our house with the kids, because I am going to miss out on Halloween with them and All Saints Day, too. But this time, it is for the right reasons.
Fortunately, our neighborhood is safe; except the mad-escaping-black lab-crapping machine. And I would like to say that the time at home has been restful and enjoyable, but it hasn't been. We have been struggling with the DVD and I have never been so completed stumped in my life. Why this is happening and by whom to whom and because of why is a mystery to me! Sometimes I think that this is just some kind of a joke, and I hope it is at the end of the gag, but there is no punch-line.
At the least the audio is fantastic! I heard songs by Megadeth, Lamb of god, Opeth, Arch Enemy, and Overkill from G.2006's NA line-up, and Andy Sneap is doing a great job. You may remember, those of you with the new record, that Andy is the engineer and mixer from United Abominations. Usually, there is a getting used to each other period when you do a record, but since Andy and I have mutual respect for each other, we work well together.
The amount of time that is going to be saved from not having to send mixes back and forth for approval, just to get the style of the mix right is something that we achieved on the last record with flying colors. That and having a chance to check in with y'all here and at our myspace sites is awesome. I love the way that the storekeeper has become such good friends with all of you too. She is a great friend and Pam's assistant and her name is Carla.
Carla tells me that we are the only band that had an Official Band Ebay site when we first started our store, and she has loads of stuff from the other bandmembers coming too. I am so stoked at all of the ways that we can keep in contact with you; especially the askdavemustaine.com site and my SayNow cellphone. Man, the good folks at Capitol Records/EMI just keep coming up with winner after winner, and I really dig the askdave site; I just need to record more answers next time so I can keep you guessing and coming back for more.
And I personally love my SayNow cellphone and leaving voicemessages for you each day. It is the future of the fan interactive relationship. I can't wait sometimes to tell you the stupid stuff that happens during the day, and I love to hear back from you and have some "much needed" perspective put back into my life. There is a great overall sense of humor with this project SayNow - Megadeth!!!
We have the kewlest fans in the world, and I want to tell you what I think and feel each day; like we have a great new record, we are embarking on a great world tour, and it feels like the best times of my life playing with these three gents. Our merchandise line is over the top, and with our large catalogue, we are still selling a fair amount of records, although not as much as anyone would want (except a baby band), and we just released "Warchest". Wow! That is so much good for such a little ole metal band from the US.
I am so excited about seeing the other Gigantour bands and the various bandmembers; especially the Lacuna Coil people to see if Christina would do me the honor of performing a duet with me each night (if possible). I also have an appointment with Dez of Devil Driver, but he may have forgotten. And that is ok, because I will remind him. Ha!
And the gear switch that I went back to was incredible! And although I dont officially play Line 6 gear and never did, they did make me some incredible personal amps for recording with, and I used them on tour for quite a while, but I want the reliability and the consistency that I have always had with my Marshalls; that is why you saw me with my mighty, trusted Marshall custom cabinets I modified for myself for yourself on the Tour of Duty small venue/club underplay tour.
I am super stoked to be working with Nick Bowcott at Marshall again and especially the non-business things and chats we have. There is a lot of great things happening to/for me because of Nick B. and I thank you my friend. We are also on a strange journey together that I will keep secret until you see it first, but suffice it to say that Nick helped me get my first instructional column for a guitar magazine. And there is going to be a DVD video feature along with it and I am playing the new JVM Marshall amplifier, so listen close to this new amp in the lesson, too!
Anyway, that is enough rambling from me. I look forward to the bandmembers of the other bands posting over there at the Gigantour forums and becoming familiar with our way-of-life over here at Megadeth.com and stay tuned for the imminent announcement of next year's Gigantour line up for the UK and North America. We will also be doing some Megadeth gigs not under the Gigantour banner for other festival and other one offs when we will be on our own headlining or what not.
So, in closing, I was unable to finish our DVD today because of a million reasons leading up to today, but for the first time, the editor, Lina, had a family issue and my condolences go out to you Lina. If this doesn't get done on time, it is not because I wasn't trying.
Please send good thoughts my son Justis' way; he is in a week of reports that will see if he can play for the football team. I try to encourage him, and I love to watch him play, but sometimes i think i sound like Charlie Brown's teacher when i talk to him . . . So, I thought you have been there for me so many times over the last 25-30 years and I just wished that any of you and in this case my son, would be able to gather this much energy, power, good people, and send it all to one person. How bad assed would that be?
And coming up for your entertainment in Kewl magazine (a kids magazine), my daughter Electra was interviewed on the set of the TV show she does with Bill Goldberg's lovely wife and Pam's good friend Wanda Goldberg, on her acting career and her rock and roll Daddy.
Pretty damn kewl if ya ask me! I will be back in touch this week before I go, and until then . . . COME ON GIGANTOUR.2007.OZ-2008.UK-2008.NA!
