The album debuted at #10 on U.S. Billboard charts and was certified Platinum in 1998. The first 500,000 copies of Cryptic Writings in the U.S. were released with silver background album cover. Instrumentally, the band introduced a more melodic mix than the previous albums, while stirring up a snarling brew of nasal yowls, crunchy riffs and speed-of-light guitar solos. The song 'Trust' was nominated for a "Best Metal Performance" Grammy in 1997.
